Caprine
GenerVations Inc is very pleased to offer the best genetics available from France. The breeding goal is to improve milk production, milk quality, and type of the main dairy breeds used intensively in France. Capri-IA and Caprigene France are leading the national selection program for genetic improvement of the 2 main dairy breeds; Alpine, and Saanen. The selection base includes 1000 breeders, and 150,000 milk recorded goats. The females that are selected for planned matings in order to produce proven bucks for artificial insemination, are the best goats from the selection base. The selection criteria are milk quantity, protein and fat kg’s, and protein and fat %. They are ranked by an economic index, which is calculated according to the French economic situation. Type information is recorded in a national database, which includes more than 100 000 goats. Goats are recorded for 22 type criteria, which concern feet and legs, udder, and teat size. 360 Bucks on pre progeny test assessment Bucks which successfully passed the pre progeny test assessment, are progeny tested on farm. Data recorded on farm is used by the INRA to calculate indexes using the multitrait Animal Model. The top bucks ranked on these indexes are approved for artificial insemination. ( 35 bucks per year) Genetic progress is quickly spread thanks to the use of artificial insemination. In 8 years it allowed the French breeds from the selection base to make a genetic progress of more than 100 kg’s of milk per goat per lactation! There are 70,000 artificial inseminations carried out per year, which allows to test 70 bucks per year.
